New Podcast: Meet the Farmers leading the decarb transition

A new podcast series highlighting practical, farmer-led approaches to decarbonisation is coming soon, with six episodes featuring farmers and innovators sharing their experiences, lessons and ideas for a lower-emissions future.

The series has been funded by the Hub’s Land & Primary Industries Network as part of its focus on supporting practical research, innovation and knowledge sharing to accelerate the transition to low-emissions agriculture.

Launching in the first half of July, the series explores the real-world opportunities and challenges of reducing emissions while improving productivity, resilience and long-term farm viability.

The six conversations feature farmers trialing new technologies, adopting regenerative practices and exploring new opportunities in energy, carbon and sustainable production:

• Diesel to Decarbonisation– Karin Stark shares her journey transitioning a large mixed farm towards renewable energy, including lessons from implementing solar pumping and solar–diesel irrigation systems.
• Decarbonising by the Glass– Maggie Jarrett from See Saw Wines discusses how organics, soil health, solar, lighter packaging and integrated vineyard practices are helping reduce emissions and build resilience.
• Charred for Change– John Winter explores the potential of biochar to improve soils, store carbon and create new opportunities from farm residues and bioenergy.
• Berrying Carbon: A Farm’s Green Ammonia Story– Hugh Mackinnon from Mountford Berries and Professor PJ Cullen, Chief Scientific Officer (PlasmaLeap Technologies) discuss the future of low-emissions fertiliser production and what green ammonia could mean for horticulture.
• The Diesel Drive towards Decarbonisation– Nick Sissoev and Dean Shipp share insights from a trial of hydrogen-injection technology to reduce diesel use and emissions.
• Farming Flavour into a Future Towards Decarbonisation– Rowan Berecry from Good Rich Fruit Company explores biological farming practices improving soil health, reducing inputs and supporting productive, resilient orchards.

Together, these stories demonstrate that decarbonisation is already happening on farms — through practical innovation, collaboration and solutions tailored to local conditions.

The series will be released fortnightly from July, creating ongoing opportunities to hear directly from farmers about what is working, what they have learned and what the future could look like for low-emissions agriculture.
