Diesel Decarbonisation White Paper
23 September 2026

White Paper Release: Diesel Decarbonisation of NSW Hard-to-Abate Sectors
Commercially viable diesel decarbonisation solutions remain one of the most significant hard-to-abate challenges in NSW. What this white paper provides is a practical assessment of diesel displacement pathways across
- Mining
- Heavy freight
- Rail
By combining technology readiness, commercial realities and marginal abatement costs, the paper identifies where electrification, liquid biofuels, biomethane and hydrogen can contribute, providing a technology-neutral roadmap for coordinated action across industry, government, infrastructure and research.
The White Paper was launched on Wednesday, 23 September 2026, as part of the NSW Decarbonisation Hub’ Strategy 2027–2029 launch during Global Goals Week.
